As the 2nd largest Chinese airline, Air China is the 5th largest airline in the world in terms of domestic traffic. The airline's statistics show that over 70% of these travellers fly on business. Air China was the official airline partner for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. In October 2002, the Chinese Secretary of State decided to restructure the airline and it became civilian owned company and merged with Chinese National Aviation Company and China Southwest Airlines. These two companies formed the new China Aviation Group. Today the company has over 23,000 employees, among which 2,600 are pilots. The company also boasts an impressive number of pilots who have successfully logged over 20,000 flight hours, currently over 130. The airline has stated that its future goals are to become the largest air carrier in China. In attempt to achieve this, the company has recently expanded its regional flight plan and has continued its Star Alliance partnership with airlines such as Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines and United Airlines. The company logs around 4,160 flights per week.

Air China is a member of the Star Alliance network and a huge network of partners where miles and points can also be earned on flights with other airlines.

Redeem miles

Miles can be redeemed on flights with China Air as part of the Phoenixmiles program. One option is a category upgrade. Depending on the number of points and the destination, it is possible to obtain a premium ticket cheaply or receive a free upgrade to Business Class. In addition, flights may even become free once a certain number of miles are reached, whereby the necessary number of miles is dependent on the flight duration and the destination. There is also the option of redeeming miles for premium tickets for other partner airlines. Phoenixmiles can therefore not only be collected but also used in several different ways.
