Bangkok enjoys a subtropical climate that varies very little between the seasons. Its monsoon season lasts from May or June through to October, though this can vary sometimes. During the monsoon season, rain can occur on a daily basis but typically won’t disrupt travel. The best time of the year to visit the city is probably during the winter months, when the weather is both cooler and drier.

Downtown Bangkok is packed with shopping malls all within walking distance from one another. Head to the Siam Paragon or Centralworld for luxury shopping, and the MBK Centre for bargains. Traditional Thai crafts can be found at Chatuchak market, which is the city’s largest outdoor shopping facility. Here, visitors can get the best deals on Thai silks, wood carvings and other great souvenirs. The market is open each weekend and attracts both locals and tourists.

Local food in Bangkok can be found on every street corner. Blending contrasting flavours and textures, Thai food has become one of the best known cuisines in the world, and visitors will have the opportunity to sample from amazing, authentic Bangkok street food stalls. Som tam (papaya salad) is enjoyed by many local office workers on their lunchbreak along with more traditional snacks like chicken satay. Stop by a traditional outdoor restaurant to try more elaborate dishes like tom yum (lemongrass soup) and green curry.

Bangkok is notorious for its wild nightlife scene and from the looks of it, it seems that the city never sleeps. In town, Patpong is the most popular night time destination for tourists looking for Bangkok’s legendary night scene featuring a mix of go-go bars, discos, karaoke bars and cabarets. Here, parties last all night, with food and drinks always available. To visit Bangkok’s high-end clubs and lounges, head to downtown’s Siam area to visit places like the Red Sky lounge, which sits 55 stories above the streets of the city.
