Cathay Pacific Airways Marco Polo Club Frequent Flyer Program

Enjoy Exclusive Rewards with the Cathay Pacific Marco Polo Club

The Marco Polo Club is the passenger loyalty scheme offered by Cathay Pacific. Upon joining the programme, travellers flying on eligible Cathay Pacific, Dragonair, and carriers in the Oneworld Alliance group of airlines can earn and enjoy various travel and non-travel rewards, depending on their level of membership. Extra miles are awarded when flying on long haul flights or in higher fare classes. There are four levels of membership in Cathay Pacific's Marco Polo Club: Green, Silver, Gold and Diamond. These are linked to the number of miles accumulated over a twelve month period. Missing miles can be added to the account retrospectively. What are the Marco Polo Club benefits? Air miles earned in the Marco Polo Club cannot be redeemed for free flights, but they do give travellers greater travel privileges when flying on Cathay Pacific, Dragonair and Oneworld Alliance airlines. Passengers with all levels of membership have access to a dedicated reservations line and extra baggage allowance; they can also enjoy priority check-in before they board their flight. Higher membership tiers offer priority waitlisting, priority baggage handling, and access to business class and first class lounges. Marco Polo travellers can also take advantage of exclusive duty-free offers.

Environmental impact of Cathay Pacific Airways

Cathay Pacific Airways is an airline that is taking social, environmental and sustainability responsibilities seriously. Although almost all modern aircraft are nowadays increasingly fuel efficient, the company recognizes that the aviation sector is an important source of CO2 emissions. Because of that, the company is committed to producing permanent and meaningful reductions in the carbon footprint and improving the energy resources management. To achieve this purpose, the company has invested in fuel efficiency, significantly reduced noise, waste and water use in their operations and is monitoring research findings in substitutes for jet fuel.

Cathay Pacific Airways - Creating Programmes for a Better Environment

Cathay Pacific Airways has a FLY Greener programme that allows participants to contribute to projects that take CO2 out of the atmosphere. It gives passengers the chance to minimize their carbon footprint by offsetting their journey's emissions. Another initiative to improve sustainable development and energy resources management is the coastal cleanup. Volunteers have participated in activities to remove debris from coastal areas and in 2009 and 2010 they helped to collect more than 1,600kg of material. The airline is also a member of several organizations whose main objective is to reduce the impact of CO2 emissions on the environment and create sustainable development of biofuels.

Working to Improve Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

The German NGO Atmosfair gGmbH, an organization that establishes energy efficiency points and classifies companies from A to F, ranking each airline accordingly, shows in its 2012 report that although there is room for improvement, much has been done by the company to achieve its goals. In the 2012 report, Cathay Pacific Airways scored 74,3 points against the 59,3 points scored in 2011, which constitutes an improvement of nearly 27%. In 2012, the airline's rank was 14th place among 125 companies, placing it in the C class.
