Environmental impact of EVA Air

EVA Airways based in Taiwan takes a corporate approach to ecological issues and is keen to reduce its impact on the environment. The airline is conscious of the need to reduce emissions of CO2 and other pollutants, as well as the need to lower its carbon footprint. In 2005, EVA Airways purchased a new fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs. The engines of these planes are more fuel efficient, carrying twice as many passengers per mile per gallon and are kinder to the environment than older Boeings. Other energy resources management actions include terminal changes to avoid the need to taxi on the ground.

EVA Airways Needs Less Paper

In 2000 EVA Airways introduced electronic products to reduce the weight of bulky paper manuals being carried by planes. They also carefully assessed the potable water needs of each flight according to passenger numbers. This meant that planes are now carrying less weight and are therefore more fuel efficient. In turn this produces lower emissions of CO2 and a kinder carbon footprint. A system of E-tickets and recyclable flight products means that paper products and waste have been virtually removed, saving trees and helping the environment. EVA Airways has the stated aim of promoting sustainable development to achieve a neutral carbon footprint by 2020.

Ranking Number 5 by Atmosfair

In response to growing concern about CO2 emissions, the impact on the environment and the carbon footprint of the aviation industry, the German NGO Atmosfair has devised a scheme of ranking airlines. It is based on calculations to establish fuel efficiency and the energy resources management of participating airlines. In 2012 Atmosfair placed EVA Airways at number 5. To encourage airlines to pursue sustainable development, the airlines are classified according to their carbon footprint, on a scale from A to F and EVA Airways was awarded B with 78.5 points.
