The diverse geography across the European continent means diverse weather conditions in the various regions. Spring is beautiful throughout Europe, and countries like the Netherlands are famed for their fields of flowers around this season. France varies from being cool in the north to sometimes being very hot in the south, even extending into winter when it can still be pleasantly warm. August is best for Spanish or Italian holidays. Eastern Europe has very cold winters perfect for skiing.

Europe has everything a shopper could want and more. Most leading fashion houses reside here and clothing in general is chic and stylish with Paris and Milan leading the way. London’s Knightsbridge and Regent Street are a mecca for upmarket shoppers and Camden Market is famous for its crafts. Lisbon offers fine embroidered linens and Madrid’s El Rastro is Spain’s largest flea market, at which enviable leather craftsmanship is on sale. The beauty of Swiss glassware is hard to surpass.

Europeans love meat in all forms, whether it is ground, roasted, in sausage form or stewed, and meat or seafood will feature on most menus in Europe. National dishes reflect climate differences. Eastern European countries consume foods heavy in carbohydrates and fat, which means lots of meaty stews with potatoes and dumplings, while in the Balkans fish dishes and fresh produce are more common. Western European cuisine is far more familiar internationally, from Germany’s bratwurst to England’s fish and chips.

Europe caters for the most hedonistic of fun seekers and Spain features strongly as a mecca for night-time entertainment. Ibiza has always been a firm favourite with its pre-partying rituals that begin at around 11pm and lead to some serious clubbing until breakfast time. Clubs feature music that caters to all tastes. Amsterdam opts to club all night and then host after-parties that continue until noon. For indoor and outdoor all night dancing, the clubs on the Athens beachfront are spectacular.
