With a large and modern fleet, Korean Air is one of the 20 biggest airlines in the world. Offering over 400 flights a day, the network includes more than 100 worldwide destinations. Every year, around 22 million people fly with Korean Air on a series of local, regional and international routes. Founded by the South Korean government in 1969, the airline replaced Korean National Airlines as the national carrier. In the following years, local and international routes were established including the route to Los Angeles beginning in 1972. Korean Airlines was among the first companies to introduce a frequent flyer program whereby customers could collect points and exchange them for premiums and bonuses. In 1990, the first non-stop flight from Europe to Korea was introduced. As a founding member of the SkyTeam, the destination network spans over all continents and offers customers a huge range of codeshares and benefits. North American destinations including Atlanta, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles are joined by major Asian and European cities such as Beijing, Tokyo, Frankfurt and London. Today, the frequent flyer program SKYPASS offers a range of benefits to regular customers.

Environmental impact of Korean Air

Korean Air moves to aid the environment from harmful CO2 emissions. These emissions are ejected from vehicles and do damage to the earth's atmosphere. Korean Air has chosen to participate with Atmosfair gGmbH to reduce their carbon footprint and help the environment. With an increasingly globalized society, there is more mobility, which increases pollution. Korean Air has proved to be among the "greenest" of airlines, which means it provides a lesser amount of carbon emissions, and does not use as many fossil fuels as other airlines do. Their main goal is to help fight global warming with the use of shorter air routes.

Korean Airlines With Atmosfair Raise Money

Atmosfair is a climate protecting organization that focuses on travel. They actively help protect the environment by putting greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, in hopes to offset the daily CO2 emitted from vehicles. While there is no "technical" solution to fossil fuels, Atmosfair gGmbh will use its program to raise money in bio-fuel research. Flyers can take note of how many miles they travel, and donate money to the program for the according distance. This will have a great impact on the environment, as it urges customers to take note of their own effects on the earth's environment.

Korean Airlines Scores 53 Points on Atmosfair Index

Atmosfair's airline rank allows for different companies to understand how their flights affect the environment. By checking this system, frequent flyers can also determine which routes to take, and have knowledge of the most efficient airlines. Korean Airlines has scored 53 efficiency points on a 1 to 100 scale, and was awarded an efficiency class D for its utilization of fuel. This puts thee airline at rank 73. Ranking airlines are prompted to take the shortest routes in order to have a maximum positive impact on the environment. In this way, they can save CO2 emissions and be conservative.
