Flights to Munich (DE)

Beer halls, sausages and Oktoberfest are just some of the things that come to mind when you think of Munich, however this modern, metropolitan city has much more to offer! Munich "Franz Josef Strauss" Airport is one of the largest in Germany and offers daily scheduled flights to North America, as well as connections throughout Europe. Upon arriving, be sure to leave yourself plenty to time to truly enjoy all this historic city has to offer. The city centre alone has plenty to offer, with Marienplatz, Isator and Karlsplatz offering plenty of architecture and shopping. The Olympic Area was the site of the 1972 Olympics and still draws thousands of visitors each year for concerts, sporting and cultural events. In the evening, be sure to visit one of the many beer gardens and halls located throughout the city and try the unique cuisine and world famous beer.

Bavaria is the largest federal state in Germany and very likely the best known. Large cities such as Augsburg, Nuremberg and Regensburg are also located in this southern state. Germany itself has been an EU member since 2002 and is often visited by international business travellers and investors. Many flock to Munich in the Autumn to enjoy one of the best known parties in the world, Oktoberfest. Here one can experience the unique culture of the region and of course sample the world renowned beer and cuisines. Regardless of whether coming on business or holiday, Germany has something to offer everyone!

The proximity of the Alps has a significant effect on the Munich climate and usually brings snow and frost from December through to February with January producing the lowest temperatures. Summers encourage an outdoor lifestyle with warm rather than unpleasantly hot conditions making outdoor dining a general practice. The hottest months are July and August, but visitors should come prepared for rain and the occasional thunderstorm. The famed Oktoberfest is strategically staged in ideal weather from mid September to mid October.

Shopping in Munich has an excitement of its own. Its 2 most renowned shopping areas are Kaufingerstrasse and Sendinerstrasse where everything can be found either in one of numerous family run speciality shops or large, international department stores. Maximillianstrasse houses the more exclusive boutiques. Buy a Dirndl or Lederhosen which is a traditionally Bavarian and wear it to the world renowned Oktoberfest; as a souvenir it’s a great reminder of a really fun time.

Munich is Germany’s gourmet capital and the food is certainly good, plentiful and has international flavours mingling as pleasurably as locals do with tourists. From the famous beer gardens to the Bratwurstherzl just off the Viktualienmarkt, the traditional sausage and sauerkraut will satisfy those hunger pangs along with a variety of salads and other tempting dishes, or more elegant dining can be enjoyed Venetian style with dishes such as roast goat cooked to perfection in the old apothecary setting of the Vinaiolo restaurant.

Thanks to the many foreigners who visit the city, Munich has a very cosmopolitan feel and it shows in the diversity of its clubs and pubs. The areas of Schwabing and Haidhausen throb to the beat of a multitude of dance clubs that feature jazz, Latin, rock and practically everything in between. The Shamrock Irish Pub has patrons loudly drumming on tables during typical, lusty sing-alongs while Schumann’s American Bar with its trendy beer garden is the fashionable place to be.
