The airline Ryan Air was reviewed based on 84 passenger flight reports. On average, there were 2.69 stars rewarded.
Ryanair is not only the largest cheap airline in the world but with over 50 million passengers carried each year is even the 3rd largest of all European airlines. In terms of the number of passengers who travel over borders, Ryanair prides itself on being the biggest in the world. The Irish company has 40 million international passengers each year, a figure currently unmatched by any other airline in the world. Tony Ryan founded the airline in 1985 as a small company designed to provide connections between England and Ireland. After a few years, a new company overtook the project and based it on the business model of Southwest Airlines, the leading American cheap carrier. Since 2000, passenger numbers have grown rapidly. Around 150 destinations in Europe and North Africa can be reached, primarily via airports which are situated outside of cities, rather than centrally located. This can mean it takes longer or costs a little more to reach the airport or travel to cities and resorts. From the hub at London Stansted, Ryanair cheaply connects a huge range of countries including other base airports Dublin, Girona, Alicante and Brussels-Charleroi. The airline does not currently offer a frequent flyer program.

04.03.2014  Ryanair plans to offer flights to the USA for less…

As announced at an event in Ireland by Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary, travellers will soon be able to fly to New York and Boston from many European cities for ten euros (£ 8.25) on the Irish no-frills airline. Ryanair plans to offer flights from Europe to the US for a little as ten euros. The announcement came from Michael O’Leary yesterday at a hotel conference in Meath. Return flights from Boston and New York are expected to cost as little as 10 US Dollars (£ 6.00). Between 12 and 14 major European cities are slated as points of departure. Cheap Flights to the USA too Good to be True 2014 is indeed supposed to be the year of cheap flights, but this cheap? At these ridiculously low prices, of course, you have to wonder how O’Leary expects to be able to make good on this offer. The largest European airline in terms of passenger numbers has long been known to add on many extra charges, for everything from printing your ticket, to meals, to baggage. O’Leary himself admitted that this offer of flights to the US for ten euros would not be available for all seats. A very high number of business or premium seats would be necessary in order to offset the cheaper seats. Current Charges on Ryanair Ryanair’s current fares differ according to whether a traveller has bought their ticket 1) online or 2) at the airport or through the call centre. In both cases, a two percent credit card fee may apply. In the second case, Ryanair also charges 15 pounds for the re-issuance of a boarding pass, a 20-pounds booking fee, 70 pounds for airport check-in and a 15-pounds check-out fee. Additionally, in both cases, they charge 5 to 15 pounds for seat reservations and boarding. Those flying with small children pay an additional 30-pounds toddler fee. The transportation of buggies and prams, child safety seats or a travel cot costs 10 to 20 pounds. Travelling with bicycles (30kg), sports equipment (20kg) or instruments (20kg) can incur charges of up to 60 pounds. The re-booking fee for missed flights is 110 pounds. Cheap Flights to the USA – Four to Five Years Away Realistically, according to O’Leary, it may be four to five years before the special offer becomes available, if the aircraft necessary for the transatlantic routes are acquired. However, the large demand by the gulf carriers prevents them from being able to order aircraft in a timely manner, complained Ryanair’s executive. So, in any case, passengers have to wait patiently before this kind of price level is reached. However, reasonable fares are still available to the USA at fly.co.uk, where you can already fly to Chicago for 489 pounds or to Florida for 403 pounds. More

13.12.2013  Ryan Air introduces fee for seat selection

The Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will introduce fee for seat selection, starting in February. It will cost up to £15 to have a choice in where you sit, and not leave things to chance. Soon, passengers flying with Ryanair will have the option to select their seat in the cabin before barding the plane. Starting on the 1st of February, seat reservations will be possible either directly at the airport, online, or via the callcenter. The price for each seat depends on the row. Rows 1 to 5, 16, 17, 32 or 33 will cost an additional £10. These are the most popular seats offering additional leg room. In addition to the seat reservations, Ryanair also offers passengers the option to chose if they want to be the first to get on and off the plane. Standard seats with Ryanair cost five Euro It will cost £5 to select one of the standard seats, and passengers will be boarded depending upon their seat number, however those who would still like to board first can do so by paying an additional €2. Those making their reservations via the callcenter or at the airport, as opposed to online will also face an additional charge. Meaning the total cost for a seat reservation can be up to £15. Booking Ryanair seats without a surcharge All other passengers who do not wish to pay the seat reservation fee will be allocated one of the remaining seats. The airline doesn’t exclude the more comfortable rows for passengers who do not pay the additional fee. It is also not guaranteed that groups booking and travelling together will be seated next to each other. An exception will be made so that a mother and child can be seated next to each other, if they make a reservation. Luggage becomes cheaper In exchange for the seat reservation fee, Ryanair announced in Autumn, that they would be reduceing the rate for checked luggage. Starting on the 5th of January, the price for each piece of extra luggage will be reduced from £30 – £60. Additionally since the 1st of December, passengers have be allowed to take a second piece of hand luggage into the cabin with them. Also to increase customer-friendliness, the fee for printing out boarding passes for passengers who have already checked in online, but forgotten their boarding pass has been reduced from £70 to £15. Ryanair’s fee regulations are a sign or a more sophisticated development plan, whereby the Irish discount airline hopes to separate itself from the competition, Easyjet.   More

17.09.2013  Ryanair is focusing on growth at London Stansted

Ryanair and the new owners of the airport London Stansted, the “Manchester Airport Group” (MAG), have agreed to a joint growth program that should help the airport to a new impetus. Recently the number of passengers at London’s third biggest airport has reduced sharply. In 2008 around 23.8 million air passengers used Stansted, the last count showed only 17.5 million. The low cost Irish airline Ryanair is staying at Stansted after an unspecified amount in the reduction in charges, and the capacity is to increase in the coming ten years by 50 %. The reduction to the airline can only be kept if the number of passengers is increased correspondingly, as Ryanair boss Micheal O’Leary explained on Monday. To do this the airline wants to transfer machines from other airports to Stansted and offer for sale Discount-Tickets. Already for the summer flight schedule of 2014 Ryanair wants to intensify its engagement at Stansted: A total of 120 routes are being offered, four of which are new to Dortmund, Bordeaux, Lisbon and Rabat, which therefore increase the weekly flight total from 1800 to 2000. Ryanair and MAG agreed to the new program after O’Leary threatened to reduce the capacity at the airport by nine percent after the airport announced plans to increase charges by six percent. More

21.08.2013  Ryanair: Pilot fired after making a statement…

Ryanair has fired a pilot after he had critically made a statement on TV concerning safety at the low-cost airline. The airline denies the allegations and considers them to be slanderous. A Ryanair pilot openly made a statement concerning safety in a documentary film for the British TV Channel 4 for which he was fired. The airline rejects the statement made by the pilot and also shows its dislike of such comments by threatening disciplinary action for any comments made on safety. In the report the pilot also said that he had received a critical letter for using too much fuel. Ryanair has rejected criticism from pilots in the past few weeks whereby the airline has requested that its crews carry less fuel reserves to save money. In 2013 three Ryanair planes have run into difficulties due to having too little fuel onboard. It was then investigated to see if Ryanair was also partly responsible for the resulting emergency landings due to not carrying sufficient fuel. The aviation regulatory authority IAA have said that Ryanair have not committed any offences in this regard. More
