The airline Singapore Airlines was reviewed based on 10 passenger flight reports. On average, there were 4.57 stars rewarded.
When measured by assets possessed, Singapore Airlines is the second largest airline in the world. It possesses one of the most modern fleets worldwide which is still being developed and expanded. The customer service, for which the airline has already received several awards, is most remarkable. In May 1947 an airline called Malayan Airways Limited was founded in Singapore. At that time the flight schedule consisted of three flights per week to Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang. The fleet was constantly expanded in the following years and the name of the airline was frequently changed to Malaysian Airways or Malaysia-Singapore Airlines. In 1972 the company was eventually split up into Malaysian Airline System and Singapore Airlines. In 2007 it was the first company to receive the 'Super Jumbo' Airbus A380. Today the airline serves over 60 destinations worldwide, a figure which rises to more than 100 when combined with affiliates. The main focus of the flight plan is the Asian territory, while Los Angeles, New York and Houston are among the North American destinations offered. Singapore remains a popular transfer centre for flights between Europe and Australasia.

Baggage regulations for flights with Singapore Airlines

Special luggage items

Oversize musical instruments such as cellos or guitars may be brought into the cabin of the aircraft if a separate seat is booked for them. This is only possible in Economy Class. The weight of the instrument may not exceed 75kg, its height may not be greater than 1.549 metres and its width no greater than 0.483 metres. For sporting equipment, 6kg is typically charged if the weight exceeds the free baggage allowance. For ski equipment, 3kg are charged and for each canoe 15kg are charged as excess baggage.

Checked luggage

Checked baggage is stored in the aircraft's cargo compartment. Passengers will not be able to access this luggage during the trip. Therefore, travel documents, valuables and needed medication should be transported in carry-on luggage. For flights to the U.S. and Canada, two items of baggage are permitted. The size of each item is limited to 158cm (length + width + height). In Economy Class, the sum of dimensions of both items may not exceed 273cm.

Hand luggage

It is possible to bring a suitcase, a garment bag, or a briefcase as a carry-on item. Depending on the amount of space available in the aircraft, passengers in Business, First and Suites Class may take a second carry-on item. In addition, it is also permissible to bring on board a lady's purse, a coat, an umbrella or walking cane, a laptop, a small camera, a reasonable amount of reading material, baby food, and an infant carrier, as well as crutches and/or a completely collapsible wheelchair, if required. In general, a carry-on item may not weigh more than 7kg and the sum of its dimensions may not exceed 115cm.
Singapore Airlines is a leading international airline with a network covering five continents. Its fleet is one of the youngest in the world. Its baggage policy is particularly generous for baggage in Economy Class class for flights to the U.S. and Canada.

Environmental impact of Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines has adopted several initiatives to promote environmental resources management. For instance, the airline is a partner with the Harapan Rain Forest Initiative. This sustainable development project helps the environment by protecting large areas of rain forest from deforestation. The airline is also able to reduce its carbon footprint because of the CO2 these trees sequester. Singapore Airlines also makes use of the Airbus A380, a very efficient aircraft, which has less of an impact on the environment than other similarly sized planes. This efficiency also reduces the airline's CO2 emission levels by one metric ton of CO2 per flight from London to Singapore.

Singapore Airlines' Sustainability and Resource Efficiency

To reduce its impact on the environment, Singapore Airlines has joined the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group. This group has invested in research into aviation bio-fuels. Such a fuel type promotes sustainable development by reducing the firm's fossil fuel dependencies and its carbon footprint, and is an example of energy resources management aimed at protecting the environment. Additionally, Singapore Airlines has committed to preserving the environment in its Environmental Report 2011/12, and commits to ensuring that all staff comply with carbon footprint reducing strategies. The company will also train its staff to make sure that they reduce CO2 emissions and waste.

Energy Efficiency Classifications assigned to Singapore Airlines

Atmosfair gGmbH has been ranking airlines worldwide with respect to their energy efficiency since 2008. Atmosfair ranks firms according to their relative efficiencies, producing a numerical airline point score for each firm. Airlines are also assigned a categorical airline rank, ranging from A to F, where 'A' denotes the most efficient firm, and 'F' the least efficient. Singapore Airlines has been assigned an airline rank of C, and an airline point score of 23 out of 125. This means that it is the 23rd most efficient airline of those surveyed, and has moderate efficiency overall, based on its airline rank.
