Stuttgart is a year round destination, with warm summers, snowy winters, beautiful spring and crisp autumns. Temperatures can vary considerably between day and night and thunderstorms can occur, mainly during the summer months. In winter, residents undertake Württemberg Kehrwoche, the clearing of the sidewalk area outside of their property so that pavements are clear of snow and ice. January is generally the coldest month of the year with July and August the warmest. Visit during autumn, a great time for experiencing the local forests with milder temperatures and blue skies.

Königstrasse is the main shopping area in central Stuttgart with designer stores such as Louis Vuitton and Cartier, large department stores and the Markthalle for traditional fresh food and cheeses. The Christmas market runs from the end of November until the 23rd December, with over 250 wooden hut style stalls selling traditional carvings, handmade gifts and Swabian food specialities. For brand name bargains, the Outlet City Metzingen has over 60 shops offering discounts of up to 80% with excellent transport links and parking

Stuttgart has an abundance of restaurants from steak houses and pizzerias to those serving traditional Swabian food such as spätzle (noodles) and maultaschen (filled Swabian noodles). Ochs-n-Willi in the centre of town is slightly away from the main tourist flow and popular with the locals. Serving house specialities, traditional dishes such as semmelknodel and with a large salad bar, the speed of service is exceptional, even during busy periods. For desert, apple strudel and black forest cake are popular local dishes.

Stuttgart has a varied nightlife including bars, nightclubs, Irish pubs and discos. The centre of town is popular in the evenings. Calwar Strasse is home to bistros and wine bars and Calwer-Eck-Brau is a local brewery that offers tours and beer tasting for groups. Throughout the year festivals take place, two of the most popular are Oktoberfest and the spring festival of Fruehlingsfest, which offers live music and traditional beers to sample.
