Auckland Airport is located 14 miles south of Auckland, and passengers travelling by car can reach the airport by taking the Southern Motorway from central Auckland while heading towards Manukau City and the Gillies Avenue exit. Directional signs to the airport can be followed from there.

Once there, the airport has two terminals, one dealing with international flights and the other dealing with domestic flights. Airlines operating out of the international terminal include Aircalin, Air New Zealand and Air Pacific; while Great Barrier Airlines, Pacific Blue and Air Chathams are just a few of the airlines that operate out of the domestic terminal.

For transport to and from the airport, there are car rental services, as well as shuttles, buses and taxis. Automobile rental companies such as Avis and Europcar have airport locations; while companies like Pacific Coachlines and Stagecoach offer bus services daily. The taxi and shuttle bus services are located in both terminals.

For drivers, there are plenty of parking options at the airport. Car parks are located near both of the terminals. Additionally, there are also parking spaces available for campervans, motorbikes and bicycles.

While there are no hotels located within the airport, the Grand Chancellor Auckland Airport Hotel is only a five-minute drive from both of the main terminals. Operated by Grand Hotels International, the Grand Chancellor Auckland Hotel is not far from the centre of Auckland City. The hotel offers a selection of facilities, including 193 guestrooms, most of which have private patios, and for those that are interested in a diverse menu; a restaurant, oyster bar, and a lounge are also on-site.

To accommodate busy travellers, the Auckland Airport offers many facilities. The international terminal offers baby facilities, airline VIP lounges, internet kiosks, medical services and much more; while facilities offered in the domestic terminal include banking services such as ATMs and a Travelex Currency Exchange outlet. Moreover, there are plenty of facilities for children, like miniature golf, an Airspace entertainment centre, playgrounds and much more. For adults, there is a golf course and a gym. Finally, there are also a variety of shops and food areas in each terminal.
