Mumbai International Airport consists of two separate terminals, which almost seem as if they are two separate airports. Together, the two sprawling terminals spread over 1,450 acres of land area. One is for international passengers and the other for domestic. It’s the country’s chief air-hub and also the largest. Furthermore, the Mumbai-Delhi route is rated as the seventh-busiest domestic route in the world.
Mumbai’s International Airport, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is named after the late Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhosale. It‘s the busiest Indian International airport managing about 45 landings and take offs on average, each hour. The airport is around 35 km from Mumbai’s important business nerve-centre.
Among the facilities here you will find convenient bank currency exchange counters next to the customs area. Hotel bookings and pre-paid taxi service can be accessed from the airport information desks. You won’t find any shops in the arrival area. The departure lounges have shopping facilities and also a few eateries.
The Santa Cruz Airport, located 25 km from Mumbai city center, handles domestic travelers. A number of counters surround the baggage retrieval area such as the hotel reservations counters. You’ll find taxis in a policed queue adjacent to the terminal. The departure area has only a few shops, which includes a snack bar. Public phones are available in both of the terminals of the airport. There is even a free shuttle service between the international and domestic terminals.
