Stansted is the third busiest airport in Europe. It is located about 40 miles north-east of the city of London. If you are travelling to the airport on the M11 from London you should take junction 8a, or from Cambridge junction 8. Then keep an eye out for signs along the A120 to reach the airport.
The airport is well served by train services such as the Stansted Express. This train runs every 15 minutes to half an hour. National Express operates long distance coach services. A Terravision shuttle service links London Victoria with Stansted. The airport has one terminal and one main runway. The airport handles over 23.5 million passengers a year and 41 different airlines operate from the airport. The airport’s car parking facilities include valet, short and long-stay parking. Near the terminal building, special parking spaces are available for disabled badge holders.
The main terminal building has a left baggage facility and wireless Internet facilities, both before and after security. The airport has several conference rooms that are air-conditioned and have flipcharts and 24-hour security. There are baby-care and nappy changing facilities available in the terminal building. The W.H.Smith stores, before and after security, have a wide range of games, confectionery and books suitable for both children and adults. A number of restaurants, including the famous Garfunkel’s chain, serving fast food have a special children’s menu.
Close to the airport are two comfortable hotels. The hotel Hilton-London is situated next to the long-stay car park. The other hotel is Radisson SAS which is within walking distance of the terminal. Hostels in England can arrange accommodation for budget travellers.
