American Airlines is a subsidiary of AMR Corporation with headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. American Airlines largest hub is the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
American Airlines operates flights across the United States, Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Western Europe, Japan, China and India. In 2005, the American Airlines fleet flew more than 138 million passenger miles. The Airlines has destinations on four continents and hundreds of destinations worldwide. The airlines, has many non-stop transatlantic flights and will have a non-stop flight from Chicago to Beijing in 2009.
As many other airlines, American Airlines is reducing the number of long distance routes due to the worldwide fuel crisis. Many services once free are now provided as for a fee. A new charge is the $15 fee recently applied to over-size carry-on bags. American Airlines has cancelled about fifteen transatlantic flights and nine domestic flights.
American Airlines has many routes flown by American Eagle, American Airlines and American Connection all subsidiaries of the AMR Corp. American Airline is a member of the Oneworld Alliance composed of fifteen worldwide airlines. American Airlines flies to many destinations that are accessed through code share agreements with twenty-four other airlines companies.
American Airlines provides economy, business and first class services on their current fleet of aircraft. The fleet includes 33/Airbus A300B4-600R’s; 77/Boeing 737-800’s; 124/Boeing 757-200’s; 16/Boeing 767-200ER and 58/Boeing 767-300 ER’s; 47/Boeing 777-200ER’s; 235/McDonnell Douglas MD-82’s and 93/McDonnell Douglas M83’s.
