Bilbao Airport is about 12 kilometers from the city of Bilbao and a large volume of airport traffic is due to the many internal flights to other Spanish airports.

Rental cars, taxis and buses are the main means of transportation to and from the city. There is no train service, but Bilbao does have a tram system, a single line metro system and a cable car line which provide a convenient way to see the city and surrounding area.

The airport terminal includes a three level departures hall which is accessed from the upper road across a five lane bridge. The departures lounge, duty free shops, gift shops and fashion outlets are beyond the security check in point.

Other facilities in the airport include restaurants, cafés, bars and duty free outlets. Shops selling cloths, cosmetics and are also found in the airport. The airport provides Internet and WIFI access, telephones, restrooms and handicap assistance.

There is a car park in front of the airport terminal with 3000 spaces. A second car park includes fifteen spaces for those with a disabled driver ID, and there is also an express parking area with about 30 spaces.

No accommodation is available at the airport but 37 hotels can be found in Bilbao city.
