Cheap flights to Chania International Airport (CHQ)
Posted on: July 25th, 2008 by adminChania International Airport (airport code: CHQ) is based near Souda Bay in the island of Crete and is about 10 km east of Chania.
Chania Airport is one of only two international airports found in Crete. It has one terminal and six aircraft stands, as well as 12 check-in desks, 3 baggage claim belts, and 5 gates. The annual capacity for passengers is 1,330,000.
The best mode of transportation when going to and from Chania Airport is by taxi or by renting a car because there are only a few buses in the area. If you do decide to use a bus, know that the bus trips are infrequent, though the fare is cheaper than other modes of transportation. Commuting by taxi to or from the town takes about 20 minutes. Taxis are readily available outside of the Chania International Airport.
If you are driving your own car, the Chania Airport offers both short-term and long-term parking. There are roughly 240 short-term parking slots in the front of the terminal and 100 long-term parking slots near the gates. The fee for short-term parking is more expensive than that of the long-term parking.
Facilities in the airport include a bank, bureau de change, ATM, post office, Duty Free shop, and gift shops. There is a travel agent and a tourist help desk for travel assistance. The airport also has a VIP lounge, a first aid area, a baby/parent room, and facilities for disabled passengers.
The Ammos Hotel is only 5 km’s from Chania and offers excellent accommodation.
