The Cape Town International airport is the second largest airport in South Africa. It is also the prime tourism gateway serving millions of visitors every year. There were over 60,000 aircraft using the airport and transporting some 6.7 million passengers in 2005. It is expected that by 2014 that 14 million travellers will pass through Cape Town International Airport.

The airport is world class and in 2005 won the Skytrax Best Airport in Africa award. The Airports Company of South Africa has committed development costing R1 billion to upgrades the airport. This will include extensions to existing terminal buildings, the construction of parkades, two new satellite terminals and an expanded runway system.

There are information desks throughout the airport to assist travellers. The airport offers a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, snack and beverage shops and bars. Shoppers will find a wide array of shops, boutiques and specialty shops located throughout the terminal building.

There are baby changing facilities in the ladies bathrooms throughout the airport. There are also public telephones available in all of the terminal buildings. The airport also has a medical office that operates a full medical practice. Several disabled facilities and services are offered. Travellers with special needs should inform their airline prior to travelling.

Several banks are located within the airport along with Bureau de Change and ATMs for your banking needs. Other amenities and services include a retail postal agency offering full service Post Office counter facilities. This is located near the Domestic Arrivals Terminal.

Business travellers are encouraged to use the Zenith Airport Conference Venue. It is located near the Domestic Arrival Terminal. It offers many catering services and venues. It also offers satellite office space that is fully equipped and has secretarial services available. Executive lounges are located in Domestic and International Departures and Arrivals. There is also an airport VIP lounge at the airport.

There are approximately 2,000 parking spaces with shade net covering in the general parking area running along the airport opposite the Terminal buildings. A roaming shuttle service offers rides throughout the parking area. There are an additional 2,000 parking spaces in the multi story parkade. It is equipped with state of the art CCTV cameras, special trolley hoists and a system that displays the number of available parking bays.
