Göteborg is still informally called Säve Flygplats. It is the country’s second international airport located just 14 kilometres northwest of the centre of Göteborg. The airport is on the island of Hisingen, Bohuslän, Sweden. The airport is also used by a number of rescue services, including the Swedish Coast Guard.
There are six check-in desks and three gates to accommodate approximately 534,000 annual travellers. The terminal building offers a restaurant and café that is open Monday through Friday from 7 am to 9 pm. Saturday and Sunday it is open for regular departures. It serves strong beer and wine. There is a bar that also serves food in the departure lounge.
Travellers will find gift shops and a duty free shop. There is also a currency Auto Exchange machine available. The airport does offer a VIP lounge and tourist help desk.
There are rental car agencies that include Avis, Budget, Hertz and Europcar. Cars are generally available for approximately 700 SEK per day. Taxi services are available as well. Catching a taxi to the city centre costs approximately 330 SEK. There are also bus services available costing approximately 60 SEK.
There are many very good hotels in nearby Gothenburg plus alternative forms of accommodation available.
Though Göteborg City Airport primarily caters to low cost airlines many business travellers prefer to use this airport over Göteborg-Landvetter Airport. The main reason is that the City Airport is located closer to the city centre and it is the one of the few airports Ryanair operates to in the country.
