The airport is seen as the lifeline for the Isles and handles many of the domestic flights into mainland England. It is also used by the Isles of Scilly’s emergency services. The administration offices of the Fire and Rescue Service are based at the airport.

There are only two services that currently use the airport, namely British International Helicopters flying in from Penzance and the Skybus fixed-wing air service.

Once in the main terminal building of this small airport passengers will find just two check-in desks and two gates.

Facilities for passengers are minimal, but due to the close proximity to St Mary’s and the short waiting times this does not cause problems. There is a bar and a café, together with a newsagent. Some parking is available, however the short-term car park has room for only ten cars, with the long-term car park having just 25 spaces.

There are adequate facilities for disabled passengers as well as for parents travelling with children.

For passengers requiring transport into St Mary’s there are taxis available.
There are not hotels directly situated at the airport and passengers would need to book accommodation in one of the many hotels and B&Bs within St Mary’s.
