Cheap flights to Lakshadweep Airport
Posted on: June 19th, 2009 by adminLakshadweep Airport (formerly known as Laccadive) The Laccadive Sea is situated to the southwest of India, off the Kerala Coast in the Arabian Sea. Agatti Island has the only airport in the area. This airport was formerly known as Laccadive but now goes by the name of Lakshadweep. There are no accessible roads so car, bus and taxi travel is out of the question here. The airport is accessible only by air or by sea from Kochi. The shipping service is operated by Lakshadweep Administration. Being the only coral reef island in India and rich in flora and fauna, it is a unique and quiet destination. Lakshadweep Airport is well connected with the mainland at Kochi (Cochin). From here, there are connecting flights to many Indian airports as well as foreign destinations. Bangaram is easily accessed from Agatti Island. Kingfisher and Indian Airlines have flights to Agatti Island six days a week. Travelling from Cochin to Agatti takes roughly an hour and a half by air. There are four passenger ships that operate to and from Kochi. The voyages have a standard time of between 14-16 hours. During the monsoon season helicopter services are available from Agatti to Bangaram Island and they fly to Kavaratti all year long. For tourists visiting Lakshadweep, there are quite a number of accommodation options. There are beach resorts in Bangaram and Agatti that operate all year round. There are also charter ship-based tours to several islands where tourists can stay in resorts during the holiday season. Certain packages such as the Coral Reef package will offer tourists accommodation on board the ship itself. Being a small coral island, the airport only offers basic facilities. There is no official airport website. However, you can visit websites such as http://www.laccadive.in/faq.htm for more information.
