Leipzig-Altenburg Airport (airport code: LEJ) used to be called Altenburg-Nobitz Airport. It is located about 40 km south of Leipzig and 6 km southeast of Altenburg. In 2007, it accommodated 140,000 passengers. It is the state of Thuringia’s second largest airport.
Leipzig-Altenburg airport is easily accessible by car. Coming from Altenburg, you can drive toward B180 and go to the direction of Waldenburg. From there, you can follow the signs going to the airport.
A spacious parking lot can be found just outside the terminal building. The airport offers both short-term and long-term parking services.
The airport, being centrally located, can be accessed by public transport from all sides. A shuttle bus leaves from the airport to the Leipzig central station. Departure of the bus is coordinated with the planes’ arrival times, and travel time from the airport to central station is about 70 minutes. A bus also travels from Altenburg to the airport. Taxis are available in front of the terminal. You may also request taxis from the information desk. A couple of companies offer rental car services.
You can go to the Airport Cafe for a bite to eat or to enjoy some drinks. You may also buy some gifts; perfume, cosmetics, sweets, wine, and magazines at the travel value shop.
Internet and fax services are available at the airport’s VIP lounge, and an ATM is available inside the terminal. The Leipzig-Altenburg Airport facilities provide easy access for the disabled.
There are numerous hotels and guesthouses in Leipzig which are easily accessible from the airport with some running shuttles.
