The Targu Mures Airport opened in 1961. It serves Mures and Harghita counties. It used to be known as Vidrasau where it is located, but was renamed Transylvania Targu Mures in August 2006.

Targu Mures has had extensive renovations and a new international terminal was opened in 2005. There was also a new instrument landing system installed to allow flights 24 hours a day.

The airport has two check-in desks and one gate as well as an information desk to handle the annual capacity of approximately 200,000 travellers. There is only one restaurant and it is located outside the airport. Inside, travellers will find a catering bar as well as public telephones. For travellers with young children there is a mother and child room. Targu Mures has an ATM inside the airport for the convenience of the travellers using the airport. There is a VIP lounge available as well.

There are two parking areas 0.7 Euro per hour for the first 24 hours. The rate then goes to 0.4 Euro per hour for long term parking. Other transportation available includes chartered buses for each flight by request and a minibus from outside the airport. There regional bus connections to and from the city of Targu Mures. Locally there is also a regional railway with connections to Targu Mures and Sighisoara. Taxi service is offered at the rate of approximately 0.7 Euro per kilometre. Car rentals are available as well.

There is no overnight accommodation at the airport but there is plenty of hotel accommodation in Targu Mures itself. Enquire at the information desk for full information on local accommodation.
