The official name of Timisoara Airport is Traian Vuia International Airport. It is also known as Giarmata Airport. It is located in the city of Timisoara, Romania and is the second largest in terms of air traffic volumes. Timisoara is the main hub for the western part of Romania in the region of Banat near the Hungarian and Serbian Border. On February 6, 2003 this airport was renamed after a Romanian flight pioneer, Traian Vuia, who was a Timis Country native.

Timisoara airport terminal has a variety of bars, restaurants and shops in the public and transit areas. You will also find others located in the departure lounge. If you are looking for coffee or something to eat the largest variety and best quality can be found in the public area. Newspapers and magazines are also available to help pass the time between flights. The airport also offers duty free shops for last minute shopping before your flight. There is also wireless Internet access available at the airport to help travellers keep in touch with business and family or get the latest news.

The airport has ATM machines so travellers can exchange or transfer money. They are located in the public area and accept Visa and MasterCard. The Romanian Commercial Bank also offers the possibility to exchange currency.

Pets are permitted however they do require regular pet reservations. They must travel in the baggage hull and in special containers that can be purchased from the carrier. Any pets leaving the country must have a veterinary certificate.

Buses and taxis are available for transportation to and from the airport. There are also rental car agencies available like Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, Thrifty and City Car.

The Hotel Tresor is only some ten minutes away from the airport and a short distance from the town centre. It is a four star establishment and offers excellent service. It is situated in a pleasant residential area.
