Cheap flights to Christchurch International Airport (CHC)
Posted on: August 5th, 2008 by adminChristchurch International Airport is about thirty minutes away from the Christchurch City Centre. To reach the airport from the City Centre, passengers will need to travel along Colombo Street from Cathedral Square. Next, they will then need to access Bealey Street and travel to Harper Avenue. From there, they will need to take a right and make their way down Fendalton Avenue towards Hagley Park. From Memorial Avenue, signs can be followed to the Christchurch Airport from the Memorial Avenue roundabout.
Currently, the airport has a domestic terminal and an international terminal. A new terminal is currently being constructed, and will combine both international and domestic flights. There will also be expansions to specific areas, including baggage claim and the addition of a larger retail area.
For transport to and from the airport, there is a bus service, which takes passengers to and from the City Centre. There is also a shuttle bus service, a taxi service and car rental offices from top companies such as Thrifty and Budget.
If you are driving there are parking spaces available at the airport. To park, passengers will need a Parking Pal Card, which they receive upon entry into the car park. The card is used to pay for parking at a Pay To Go station, which passengers will need to visit before they leave the car park. They will then need to keep hold of the card as they exit the car park as proof that they have paid. Due to the construction of the new terminal, there have been several changes to the car parking system, including new parking areas opening and exits being moved. A free fifteen minutes of parking is also available as a result of the construction of the new terminal.
Presently, there are no hotels within Christchurch International Airport, but there are plenty of options for accommodations within the City Centre which is not far from the airport.
Some facilities and services offered by the airport include ATMs, a Police station within the airport, bicycle facilities, shower facilities, luggage services, mobile phone rentals, parent rooms and much more. Additionally, there are also a variety of entertainment areas located near to the airport, specifically the Antarctic Visitors Centre and KidsZone. If time permits, passengers can also visit a variety of shops and dining areas within the airport.
