The Ottawa International Airport management has made improvements to the facilities adding much modern technology for the benefit of passengers. Customs and immigration are located in the United States pre-clearance area on level three. The Foreign Affairs Office and reception area are in the Canada Reception Centre for dignitaries, in a lounge in Hanger 11, on level two.

Project Clear Skies holds an annual funding project to improve and expand air services for the airport. There has been a marked increase of incoming and out-going traffic. The airport has two runways. All tickets have a $15.00 improvement fee attached until the works are completed. An observation tower located on level three is available for passengers.

The improvements include retail shops, a bank, ATM machines and additional food and beverage facilities are available. The airport has been non-smoking since Ottawa became a smoking free city. Smoking is allowed in confined area behind the security area outdoors.

Luggage storage is on level one of the passenger terminal. The non-denominational chapel is open from 8am-5pm Monday-Friday. The parking areas include a Parkade P1-short-term, long-term and overheight vehicles park in P4. There are no shuttles from the long-term parking areas since it is only a five minute walk to the terminal.

The parking service desk for the car parking area is open from 7am to midnight. Ground transportation includes taxis, hotel shuttles, limousines and public transit (OC Transpo), which costs $4.00 in morning peak hours and $3.00 non-peak hours. Route 97 departs from post 14, located near level one arrivals area. Five car rental agencies are across the street from the passenger Terminal.

Good accommodation in the area is easy to find. There is a Days Inn conveniently situated some two miles from the airport. This is an excellent facility with all the usual amenities. It is a further 10 miles from the hotel to the city centre.
