The island of Santorini has a fast growing tourist industry and every year greater numbers of visitors are coming to the island for summer holidays. When it comes to air travel, the island of Santorini is primarily served by the Santorini National Airport (IATA: JTR, ICAO: LGSR).

The Santorini National Airport is a relatively small airport which serves as the only airport in the island of Santorini. The airport also serves as both the military and civil airport for Santorini. Its small size allows it to handle only six civilian aircrafts at a time and is located about eight kilometers from the capital city of Fira. Near the airport, there is the famous Monolithos Beach which provides passengers in the small terminal a spectacular view.

Traveling from the Santorini National Airport to Fira and its surrounding regions is quite easy. The airport is served by a bus that takes no more than 20 minutes to reach the island’s capital. There are also taxis available near the terminal. Taxis offer a more convenient and relatively affordable way to travel in Santorini. Some of the nearby hotels of Santorini also offer airport transfers.

The National Airport of Santorini has a very rudimentary terminal. There are only a few facilities in the terminal, which include a single bar which offers a great view of the runway and a jewelry shop. There is no tax free shopping available in the terminal. However, there is an ATM for the Bank of Greece. For more information about the Santorini National Airport visit: www.hcaa-eleng.gr/santor.htm.
