The Berlin-Tegel International airport is the official name of the airport that is locally known simply as the Tegel. Its airport code is TXL. This is Berlin’s major international airport and it can be found in Tegel, which is part of Reinickendorf’s northern borough. Of Berlin’s three airports it serves the highest number of scheduled flights. TXL is known as the “Frequent Flyer Airport” and it was used by more than 13,350,000 passengers in 2007.

The terminal building of Tegel is in the shape of a hexagon that encircles an open square. Comprised of halls A, B, C and D, the terminal’s A and B halls are where most of the airlines can be found.

Getting to and from Tegel is very convenient because there are buses that serve the airport and also connect to railway stations and the subway. There are also taxis available outside the terminal that can take you to the center of the city, which is 20 minutes away. Free parking at the airport is available for 20 minutes at parking space 5. Parking for an hour in any of the parking spaces of the airport costs €4.

The facilities that can be found in the airport include ATMs, banks, bureaux de change, a post office, baby rooms and business centers. There is also a good variety of restaurants and a number of shops at the airport, as well as a duty-free shop.
