Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK)
Posted on: August 5th, 2008 by adminBeijing Capital International Airport (airport code PEK) is located 20 kilometres northeast of Beijing City Centre in the People’s Republic of China. The airport’s official website is: http://en.bcia.com.cn/index.shtml. There are several driving routes that can be taken to the airport:
From Downtown Beijing go east and take the second ring road then take the Airport Expressway turn and then follow it to the Terminals.
If you are in the north head south until 3rd thru 5th ring road and take a left. Stay on this road until you reach the Airport Expressway, then turn left. This will take you direct to the terminals.
South heading north – get to 3rd to 5th ring road and turn right, stay on this road until the right turn for the airport expressway. Follow this to the terminals.
East heading west until you reach 3rd thru 5th ring road turn right. Take the 3rd thru 5th ring road until the Airport Expressway left turn and follow the expressway to Beijing airport terminals.
There is plenty of parking available in a large parking lot with 6 floors. There is a card dispensing system at the entrance and security at the car park is good with 24hr video cameras. More information can be found at: http://en.bcia.com.cn/traffic-manual/tariff.shtml.
If public transportation is preferred over driving, there are buses and taxis available. The taxis are strictly regulated and have fixed charging rates. However make sure that you understand the charge before taking the taxi. The airport has a good bus system which covers all the areas visitors might need to go. Beijing Capital is a primary hub for Air China which flies to approximately 120 destinations. It also serves as a hub for Hainan Airlines and China Southern Airlines and serves about a dozen cargo airlines. The airport has three terminals (Terminals 1-3) but Terminal 1 is currently closed for renovation.
Beijing Capital International Airport offers services to their visitors such as assistance with hotel reservations, currency exchange, a post office, left luggage service and many others. There is what is described as a market at the terminal where purchases of cosmetics and many other types of goods, both Chinese and European in origin, can be purchased.
