Don Muang International Airport was Thailand’s busiest airport up until September 28, 2006 when it was closed to commercial traffic and replaced by a new airport. Prior to its closing, it served 80 airlines and flew passengers all over the globe. After it closed to commercial traffic, Don Muang was only used for charter flights, military aircraft, and civil aviation. Prior to this closure, the airport was the hub of Thai Airways International and was an important focal point for air traffic in Asia.

Due to safety concerns and other issues with the new replacement airport, the Thai government agreed to reopen Don Muang on a limited basis for non-connecting domestic commercial flights. Currently the airport is used by three commercial airlines, Thai Airways, Nok Air, and One-Two-GO Airlines.

Don Muang International has three passenger terminals (Terminals 1-3) though currently only Terminal 3 is in use. Terminals 1 and 2 were previously used for international flights so they are currently closed.

Don Muang offered a variety of amenities to it visitors prior to its closure. These included currency exchange, shops, restaurants, etc. Please note the airport’s official website (http://www2.airportthai.co.th/airportnew/bangkok/index.asp?lang=en) still lists these services as available but the website may not currently be up to date as it does not mention the airport’s current limited service or previous closure.
