Johannesburg is South Africa’s largest city and most advanced and wealthiest. The city is the source of large-scale gold and diamond trade. It has a population of over 8 million and in the 1990’s was rated as one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

Johannesburg is not traditionally a tourist destination, but is generally used as a transit city, to other parts of South Africa, by travellers.

The city enjoys a dry sunny climate with average daytime temperatures of 24 C. Despite the dry climate, Johannesburg has the biggest man-made forest in the world.
