International traffic at Aberdeen Airport increasing
Posted on: July 24th, 2008 by John MorganThe overseas passenger traffic seen at Aberdeen Airport this June increased by 1.3 per cent over June of last year.
The Scottish airport handled approximately 302,145 passengers in June, bringing its overall traffic numbers to 1.6 million for 2008 thus far.
Amsterdam, Paris and Stavanger were the top destinations for outbound traffic during the month, while the number of passengers bound for Barcelona saw the most significant growth.
Kevin Brown, managing director of the Scottish airport, said: “With the summer schedule well underway, I am very pleased to see an increasing number of passengers now choosing to fly from their local airport to some of Europe’s most popular sunshine destinations.”
Brown also reported on work that was recently undertaken to enhance the forecourt at Aberdeen Airport. The £2 million redevelopment project will provide for greater ease of access for passengers, while better ensuring security.
Over the last five years, BAA Scotland has spent around £100 million in developing new routes for airlines around the country, with the result being that Aberdeen, along with Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, will be offering services to over 140 destinations this summer.
