Heathrow airport’s largest VIP lounge to date has opened, with a 1.650 square metre facility in terminal 1 for Star Alliance airlines.

The new lounge, which seats up-to 300 comfortably, includes wireless internet access, full catering, a business centre with fax and printers, as well as showers in the ablution rooms.

Lee Hock Lye, vice-president of products and services for Star Alliance, said the new lounge was a “major benefit” to airlines and customers.

He added: “Rather than own separate lounges and incur duplicate construction and operating costs, Star Alliance lounges save the airlines money and give customers a high-quality experience in a comfortable environment that is much larger and with more amenities than the carriers could provide on their own.”

The lounge will benefit passengers of business, First Class and VIP frequent flyers (Gold Card) for Alliance network members, including bmi, US Airways, SAS, Lufthansa, United, Thai and Singapore Airlines.
