A recent survey of travelers found that an overwhelming majority are against planes with cell-phone capabilities. Almost three fourths of American surveyed said simply they didn’t want to ride in a plane where people could talk on their phones.

Several airlines are preparing to roll out wireless services on their flights, including the ability to access email and send text messages. But the large majority of customers say emphatically they don’t want mobile phone access while in flight.

While many customers want to remain connected while in the air, they do not want to have to hear the conversation of the person next to them, especially on an airplane where the person next to them is often all too close to begin with.

The online surveyed gathered 2,033 adult responses, of which, 1,778 were movile phone users who also took flights.

The survey found that 83 per cent of people do not want talking features installed on wireless services on planes. If mobile phone capabilities were allowed in flight, 69 per cent of respondents were in favor of a designated talking zone for those with phones.

Virgin America, JetBlue Airways, Deutsche Lufthansa and Qantas Airways are testing or getting ready to launch some kind of wireless feature on their planes in the near future.
