UK airports operator BAA has indicated that as many as 270,000 passengers will pass through the main airports in Scotland this weekend, following the closing of schools for the summer.
The numbers are expected to be lower than in recent years, however, as UK holidaymakers deal with the impact of the recession.
According to BAA, Malaga, Orlando and Dubai continue to be some of the top destinations for travellers.
A spokesman for the airports operator said: “We’re looking forward to the start of a busy summer.”
Airports in Scotland are preparing for an increase in passenger traffic, as visitor arrive to attend a number of events, such as T in the Park and the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.
Travellers should pack any expensive liquids in checked baggage and smaller containers of liquids in clear, re-sealable plastic bags, which they need to present to security staff, BAA noted.
Donald Morrison, a spokesman for BAA Scotland, said: “At a time of recession, when money is tight, it makes sense to follow the Government’ security rules. No-one likes to waste money, but every year tens of thousands of passengers are required to abandon expensive drinks and perfumes because they flout Government regulations.”
