Narita International Airport is located in Narita, Japan, in the Greater Tokyo Area. It is approximately 60 kilometres from downtown Tokyo and is the second busiest passenger airport and the busiest cargo airport in Japan. The main routes by road to the airport are the Higashi Kanto Expressway, Route 295 and Route 296, all of which give easy access to the airport site.
The airport provides several parking options, with open air and multi-storey car parks to choose from. There is space for more than 2000 cars and parking for buses is also available.
Narita International Airport can also be reached by various forms of public transportation, including rail, public buses and taxis.
The airport serves as the main international hub for both Japan Airways and All Nippon Airways. Additionally, it is also a major centre for Northwest Airlines and a focus city for United Airlines. Flights from this airport are primarily international although it does serve some domestic travellers as well.
Narita International has two terminals, each with its own underground train station. Passengers can travel between the two terminals by train or shuttle bus; however there is no pedestrian connection.
The airport offers many services to its customers. These include on-site car rental agents, the ability to make hotel reservations and currency exchange. For people who may find themselves spending time in the airport there are numerous dining options. There are also hair salons, medical and dental clinics and even a pet hotel. For people travelling with kids there are changing rooms, a nursery, a children’s playroom and even a kids park. For smokers there are special designated areas where smoking is permitted.
